Amyris will have to optimize each microbial strain so that it cranks out fuel without poisoning itself and produces enough fuel molecules so that it is economically worthwhile to grow.
«If you can create an efficient enoughmolecule for this reaction, it will produce energy that is free and storable in the form of fuels,» said Li, associate professor in the IU Bloomington College of Arts and Sciences» Department of Chemistry.
