Born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1925, Bill King moved to New York City at age 20,
enrolling in Cooper Union
as an
architecture student.
Having initially
enrolled as a student of landscape painting, he soon transferred to the class for
architecture.
In 1978, when he
enrolled in the School of Visual Arts, Keith Haring began to develop a personal visual aesthetic inspired by New York City
architecture, pre-Columbian and African design, dance music, and the works of artists
as diverse
