Game - based learning is the adaptation of gaming elements and game
mechanics to non-game contexts, like the classroom or
work environment.
I'm a strong supporter of not just ramming multiplayer into games that simply don't need it or where the gameplay
mechanics simply won't support it, but the way duels here are handled feel like they could have
worked well in a competitive online
environment.
Even if the only games you like are the most mainstream AAA games, this
environment of free experimentation allows AAA developers to cherry pick the experimental
mechanics which did
work in smaller games, and give them the full AAA treatment, keeping your shooters fresh and exciting at very low risk.
More than anything, I think this game has recaptured many of the aspects of console gaming that really shine for me: multiple players, same screen, fast action, fun puzzles,
working together, a world with plenty to be discovered, and surprises (and I don't mean scripted «surprises», I mean surprises the players find in the
environment and
mechanics, like the Totec / Lara double jump).
This isn't an uncommon
mechanic, but due to the fact that most of the
environments lack any since of identity and several are repeatedly recycled it just doesn't
work here.
The three
mechanics of movement and game play
work very well together and the the addition of destructible
environments make this game paradise for players who want destruction on a massive scale.
Disappointingly, several locations are reused from the earlier Holmes game Crimes and Punishment, though translating point - and - click
mechanics to 3D
environments works well.
The year spent on PC means that Bethesda has had time to
work through many of the issues players had with the
mechanics of the game itself (for instance, first - person is now an option that seems to
work pretty well, although I personally prefer third - person as it allows the player to survey more of the
environment surrounding the hero).

The same
work has been done to the
environments as well but the impact is lessened somewhat by their need to keep level designs consistent with the original game and its
mechanics.
It definitely
works as a fun little playground to get a hang of the game's basic
mechanics, though I do have to admit the simplistic shapes and colors of the
environment actually made some of the platforming a little difficult in some areas, particularly a spiraling hill in which Laylee needed to roll Yooka up its slopes.
