In Denver,
mothers who received home visits had more sensitive
mother - infant interactions and higher HOME scores than
mothers who did not.80 Home visiting, however, had no significant effects on different aspects
of the home
environment in Elmira or Memphis.81 One possible explanation for this difference is that the majority
of mothers at the Elmira and Memphis sites were
adolescents, whereas the Denver
mothers were more diverse in age, suggesting stronger effects for older
mothers than for younger
mothers with respect to the quality
of the home
environment.
