The nature of the skin disease can be quite variable, ranging from over-grooming (also called fur mowing) to the raw, weepy lesions
of eosinophilic granuloma complex, to the dry seed - like scabs commonly referred to as miliary dermatitis.
Cats with atopic dermatitis may develop skin lesions such as
eosinophilic plaques in more serious cases.
In addition to the classic «rodent ulcers» that commonly occur along the mucocutaneous junction of the upper lip (Figure 3), cats can show other manifestations of
eosinophilic disease of the lips, including a non-ulcerated, swollen rostral lower lip and chin (Figure 4).

diagnoses eosinophilic keratitis by staining a preparation of the cat's corneal cells and finding large numbers of eosinophils when the preparation is examined under a microscope.
So if topical or oral corticosteroids are given to the cat to
resolve eosinophilic keratitis, the cat needs to be closely monitored for a herpes - 1 relapse because the same medication has been associated with reactivation of herpes - 1.

When Eosinophilic disease affect the corneas of the cat's eye, herpes - 1 is a more accepted cause.
