Epidural anesthetic has many advantages over some of the methods used to deal with the
pain of labor in the past.
I was determined not to have an
epidural because I was more afraid of the
epidural than the
pain of child birth.
I think it was made worse by the fact that I was planning on the
epidural to take away my
pain.
My
epidural was worthless and it was definitely not a
pain free birth.
Commonly used ways to help manage
pain include breathing techniques such as those taught in Lamaze classes;
pain - relief medicines given through injection; and
epidurals, where doctors can give an anesthetic through a soft, thin catheter placed in the lower back.
