The Electoral Commission has announced new
errors on the nomination form of the flagbearer of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, and other disqualified presidential hopefuls in the 2016 elections.
The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the EC's suit challenging the High Court ruling asking the Commission to allow Dr Nduom to correct
the errors on his nomination forms.
This follows a Supreme Court judgment ordering the EC to allow the 13 disqualified presidential aspirants, to correct
the errors on their nomination forms, by extending the nomination period.
The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD - Ghana), has described the Electoral Commission's (EC) detection of new
errors on the nomination forms of the previously disqualified presidential aspirants for the December polls as deeply troubling.
But lawyers of the PPP argued that, the EC did not give them the opportunity to correct
the errors on the nomination forms.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), says it has detected 33 new
errors on the nomination forms of the National Democratic Party (NDP) presidential nominee, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
The court in its ruling on Friday, October 28, 2016 ordered the EC to allow Dr. Nduom to correct
the errors on his nomination forms.
Following the Electoral Commission's (EC) detection of 33 new
errors on the nomination forms of the National Democratic Party (NDP) presidential aspirant, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, the NDP has accused the EC of victimising it.
The 12, including the Progressive People's Party's (PPP) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who secured a High Court ruling in his favour, were disqualified by the Electoral Commission for commiting various
errors on their nomination forms.
This follows the Supreme Court ruling that ordered them to extend the period for the receipt of nomination to the close of Tuesday, November 8, to enable disqualified presidential hopefuls to correct
errors on their nomination forms.
The flagbearer of the All People's Party (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has welcomed a High Court order to the Electoral Commission to allow him correct
errors on his nomination forms describing the judgment as proof that the nation's democracy is working.

«It is demonstrable failure and an indictment
on the competence of the Commissioner that only 4 of her class of 17 political parties and independent aspiring presidential candidates were able to understand and complete the
nomination forms without
error and to submit them at her own appointed time of 29th and 30th September 2016,» Amidu's statement said.
In a statement, Mr Amidu said the EC should be held accountable for the
errors made
on the
nomination forms as she failed to educate the aspirants
on the process involved.
Thus the Commission has said it is of the view that «falsified signatures
on nomination forms constitute a matter for criminal investigation and are not mere anomalies or clerical
errors, which should be pointed out to candidates for corrections to be effected.»

nomination.

error of law apparent
on the face of the record by holding that the Commission did not fix a
nomination period.
