Megaesophagus is a condition in which the enlarged
esophagus failed to pass the food to the stomach from the mouth.

fails to happen, the food shoots back up into the
esophagus.
Not only does this
fail to stop stomach acid from washing back up into the
esophagus (one study showed protein - pump inhibitors actually induce acid reflux), it also impairs nutrient absorption.
It can also occur as secondary megaesophagus when the sphincter (muscular valve) at the base of the
esophagus (nearest to the stomach)
fails to open normally to allow the passage of food (achalasia).
When you repeatedly get close and then
fail, the flavor is like a tourniquet being wound tighter and tighter around your
esophagus.
