I found it strange that Wenger didn't play him in the Champions League clash on Wednesday,
especially as the midfield anchor was unable to play at the weekend.
Pace is a very important factor,
especially as our midfield has so much creativity, it is crying out for players who can make runs in behind defenders and players who can run on the counter attack.

We might have wanted Arsene Wenger to give Francis Coquelin more of a chance in previous seasons,
especially as the team's need for a defensive
midfielder was often glaringly obvious and caused us to fall short of our targets.
Midfield is really a place that we really DO NT need any more acquisitions, in fact we could do with selling Walcott and maybe the OX (Walcott
especially rankles me
as I feel he's lazy and ineffective and has lumbered himself on us forever
as he can not justify his wage bill.)
It's difficult to blame Ozil for the difficulties he's faced at Arsenal without looking at the big picture... like the fans, he too was lied to by Wenger... there is no doubt in my mind that he was told by Wenger that he was trying desperately to recreate our earlier success by acquiring players that fit the system he ran when Henry was in his prime...
as we know this hasn't happened... in order for Ozl to flourish he needs some speed up front, forwards that can make intelligent runs, a boss in the
midfield to compensate for his obvious defensive liabilities and defenders who can transition from defence to offence quickly and efficiently... much like he had in Real and with the German National squad... unfortunately he ended up on a squad that has a striker who plays with his back to goal, very few intelligent runs into the box, minus Sanchez, no one to take pressure off him in the
midfield, once Cazorla was injured, average defensive
midfielders around him, which simply highlighted his lacking defensive qualities and defenders who lack the necessary cutting edge when it comes to transitional passing... instead of blaming Ozil, which is simply too easy,
especially considering his mopey disposition, we should be asking ownership and / or Wenger why they brought him in if they didn't intend on doing what was necessary to get the best from him... can you imagine Ozil playing with the likes of Henry, Viera, Petit and Pires, it would be incredibly to watch and even more difficult to stop... so the only thing different between his experiences in Real and with the German team versus his time at Arsenal are the players around him and we all know who is in charge of making those decisions, the Grinch who stole soccer
We were all hoping he would come back in January,
especially as we knew that Mohamed Elneny would be going off to the African Cup of Nations, but instead we are now in a precarious position in
midfield as Francis Coquelin is also out again with a hamstring injury, after having already missed one month of the season previously.
Quick notes on arsemal team 1 - paulista is not good
as i though 2 - coquelin is essential in arsenal
midfield to give stability but he can't hold the ball in his feet or give the right pass in the right time so we can't dominate teams anymore
especially with santi absence 3 - ramsey = horrible, just a headless chicken running everywhere 4 - ozil could have easily 30 + assists by now 5 - Olivier Giroud the handsom french guy shouldn't ever be a big team first choice striker 6 - where are the 4 world class strikers that wenger said we had i didn't se anyone of the yet
In the
midfield, (including RWB & LWB) we have a whole bunch of tweeners... none offer the full package, none make sense in our manager's current favourite formation, except for Sead on the left and Ox on the right, and all of them have never shown any consistency for more than a heartbeat... Sead, who I'm including in this category because of our present formation, looks like a positive addition, minus his occasional brain farts, but I would rather see what he could do in a back 4 before making my mind up... Ox, who has never played better, which isn't saying much considering his largely underwhelming play in previous seasons, seems to have found a home in this new formation; unfortunately, can we really expect this oft - injured player to handle the taxing duties that come with said position over the long haul, not to mention, it looks like he has no intention of staying... Ramsey has relied on the empathy that stems from his gruesome injury years ago and the excitement that was generated a few years back when he finally seemed to put in altogether, but on the whole he has been a big disappointment (neither he nor the Ox have scored enough to warrant a regular spot)... Wiltshire should be put on a weekly contract then played until he suffers his first injury, if and when that occurs he should be shipped - out and no one should very be allowed to say his name on club grounds ever again... Elnehy & Coq are average players who couldn't make any of the top 7 teams currently in the EPL... both have showed some great energy on the pitch, but neither are top quality and no good team can afford to have that many average players on their bench playing the same position,
especially with Coq's injury history / discipline concerns and Elheny's headless chicken tendencies...
as for Xhaka, his tenure here so far has been incredibly underwhelming... we know he has some skills to provide the long ball but his defensive work is piss poor and he gives the ball away too cheaply and far too often... finally, the enigma himself, Ozil, so much skill with his left foot but his presence has been more frustrating than uplifting... in many respects his failure has been directly related to the failure of this club to provide him with the necessary players up front, minus Sanchez of course, and unless something drastic happens very soon his legacy will be largely a negative one (much like Wenger's)
Because, according to a Daily Star report which claims to have a Premier League footballer
as its source, the deal that is apparently done between Arsenal and Schneiderlin will not happen until the end of the season and that leaves the fans wondering how we will cope in central
midfield between now and then,
especially now that we are hearing some rumours that our club captain Mikel Arteta may have suffered a setback and will be on the injury list for a few more weeks.
Wenger simply must buy another defensive
midfielder,
especially as he seems to have lost faith in Coquelin lately, and Flamini and Arteta will be gone.
Today winning teams have 9 or even 10 players, who press and defend
as soon
as the ball is lost, and
especially the
midfielders and wingers are «2 way players», who are nearly all are
as good in defending
as in attacking.
All three signings would make perfect sense for Liverpool though in truth, with central defence,
especially at left - back and
midfield all needing reinforcements if the Reds are going to compete on various fronts
as of next season.
Having Ozil of all people play

Arsenal

arsenal has won convincingly last FA cup even with all bench defenders, and what i have learnt from that is how much working hard on training,
especially for stamina and endurance so
as to press on the opponents not to give them time and a space, dominate on the ball and win the match with a big team if arsenal continue to display that with the addition of more skillful
midfielders, left winger right winger wow arsenal will be monster
no one in the league has a better
Midfield, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil (
especially as he played yesterday), OX, even Wheelchair lots of potential, Walcott proved he can be our Striker, the rotation Wenger played yesterday with Walcott and GIROUD could be the solution to our problems, each one scored in each halve...... Welbeck well there might be where we need a third striker, Welbeck is not consistent...... so an backup for COQ and a third proven Striker should bring us the title next year
Considering that he was often left to defend three
midfielders on his own by the tactical setup, I have a very hard time placing a whole lot of blame on him,
especially as it was proved a long time ago that he needs a partner.
Add to that the fact that we do not like Manchester United and that the Red Devils have been pretty poor since Sir Alex Ferguson left (and before to some extent) despite spending the sort of money on transfers and wages that a small country would be happy to have and you would think that we could easily dismiss the comments of the United
midfielder Michael Carrick,
especially as once played for our north London rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal, on the other hand are keen to bring him in
as soon
as possible,
especially if Carlo Ancelotti continues to ignore the
midfielder for the Champions League games.
I don't want to teach Arsene Wenger how to suck eggs, but right now Arsenal need
as many able bodies around
as possible,
especially one that is capable of playing
as a defensive
midfielder as well
as in our depleted defence.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch
midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing,
especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects,
as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox
as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise...
as for our
midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the
midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch...
as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (
especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's
midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part
as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential
as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense
as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
The versatile
midfielder is able to play in a number of positions, having featured at centre - back, central
midfield,
as well
as at full - back and on the wings, and would come
as a great squad member to have available,
especially with the injuries regularly picked up at the Emirates.
Arsenal can not afford to carry any passengers against a determined and physical opponent,
especially in the
midfield area and we do not want Ozil to come back and perform badly either,
as it would do nothing for his confidence.
The arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil and the re-emergence of Coquelin and Ramsey has made competition for a place in the starting
midfield much more intense,
especially with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky, Santi Cazorla, Danny Welbeck and Alex Oxlade - Chamberlain also fighting for a place
as well.
If that is the role he is set to play for England, I would not be surprised if Arsene Wenger tries him out there for Arsenal
as well,
especially as the Frenchman seems to have something against a traditional defensive
midfielder.
And to be fair to the
midfielder, I would be over the moon to have the Ramsey of a few years ago back, but the problem is that we have seen that effective and dynamic input from Ramsey all too rarely,
especially in an Arsenal shirt
as he does seem to play better for Wales than he does for us.
Not confidence, but certainly not fear either,
especially as City won't have the
midfield power and presence of Toure.
So keeping the German
midfielder on for the whole 90 minutes seems an incredible risk,
especially as Ozil was not exactly setting the game on fire.
We have good reason to go to Anfield in a positive frame of mind
as well,
especially if their captain and central
midfield general Jordan Henderson is still out with injury.
Nothing like one underachiever blowing smoke up the ass of another... we know that Ozil has some incredible technical gifts, but to be considered the best you have to bring more than just assists to the table... for me, a top player has to possess a more well - rounded game, which doesn't mean they need to be a beast on both ends of the pitch, but they must have the ability to take their game to another level when it matters most... although he amassed some record - like stats early on, it set the bar too high, so when people expected him to duplicate those numbers each year the pressure seemed to get the best of our soft - spoken star... obviously that's not an excuse for what has happened in the meantime, but it's important to make note of a few things: (1) his best year was a transition year for many of the traditionally dominant teams in the EPL, so that clearly made the numbers appear better than they actually were and (2) Wenger's system, or lack thereof, didn't do him any favours; by playing him out of position and by not acquiring world - class striker and / or right - side forward that would best fit an Ozil - centered offensive scheme certainly hurt his chances to repeat his earlier peformances, (3) the loss of Cazorla, who took a lot of pressure off Ozil in the
midfield and was highly efficient when it came to getting him the ball in space, negatively impacted his effectiveness and (4) he likewise missed a good chunk of games and frankly never looked himself when he eventually returned to the field... overall the Ozil experiment has had mixed reviews and rightfully so, but I do have some empathy for the man because he has always carried himself the same way, whether for Real or the German National team, yet he has only suffered any lengthy down periods with Arsenal... to me that goes directly to this club's inability to surround him with the necessary players to succeed,
especially for someone who is a pass first type of player;
as such, this simply highlights our club's ineffective and antiquated transfer policies... frankly I'm disappointed in both Ozil and our management team for not stepping up when it counted because they had a chance to do something special, but they didn't have it in them... there is no one that better exemplifies our recent history than Ozil, brief moments of greatness undercut by long periods of disappointing play, only made worse by his mopey posturing like a younger slightly less awkward Wenger... what a terribly waste
Wilshere was very good in the last several matches,
especially when he played
as a deeper central
midfielder.
Our
midfield especially as Ramsey has shown it is his job
as well to score.
Arteta is now in his fourth season at the Emirates, and at 32 years of age could easily be in his last year of top - flight football, and with the amount of top - class
midfielders at Wenger's disposal it is probably unlikely that the Spaniard will even be a starter in most games,
especially as Wenger has been promoting Jack Wilshere in the hope that this season will be an injury - free, breakthrough season for the Englishman.
Arsenal's superb
midfielder Mesut Ozil was looked at with amusement last year when he said that his aim was to win the Ballon D'or one day,
especially as he had had a lacksadaisical season with the Gunners and was hardly considered to even be our best player.
Probably not great news for Reading,
especially as they'll receive zero euros for their
midfielder thanks to that bastard Jean - Mac Bosman.
Because Wenger can't organize the team
as a whole to defend and because he can't coach the individual players (
especially our
midfielders and attackers) how to work, when we loose the ball.
The team
as no true leader (
especially in the
midfield).
And I also think the
midfield would be
as strong
as that of Man City and Chelsea
especially if we play Rosicky or Ramsey in the Number 10 role.
Especially Viera
as he was the enforcer in
midfield that you need.
However, even if Welbeck is fit to start, I would not be surprised to see Wenger bring Giroud back into the starting XI anyway,
especially as United look like having to field a mish mash of academy players and
midfielders in theur back four.
offtopic against city we must pay attention to city right side of the field were zabaleta and nasri will combine, we must use a left winger that can track back and support monreal, then starting with ozil, cazorla or wilshire
as left
midfielders will see us get exposed down the left, i would go for chamberleine or welbeck to play that role
especially that welbeck was playing that role in the world cup and with united
I actually rate Ramsey but being asked / played
as a holding Mid is a tall order for him
especially with his natural position and instinct being Attacking Centre
Midfield.
Tottenham have good quality options across the park at present but one can see why Redknapp would want more battling
midfielders to pick from,
especially if Jermaine Jenas does
as expected and leave the club in the summer.
If he does, then is is fantastic news for the Gunners,
especially as he is only 23 - years old and Ramsey is just six months older, meaning Arsenal could have the two in the heart of our
midfield for the next decade, growing and thriving together.
Cazorla is the one player we trust to safely carry the ball upfield through a congested
midfield but in his absence, the Ox can carry the ball upfield too but operating
as a Left or Right
Midfielder / Full Back not through the middle or
as a winger, to play in the middle of the pitch, you have to be consistently reliable, and to play in the final third you need to be consistently incisive with a visible end product, the Ox ain't consistent and rarely has an end product but that boy sure can drive forward and when he drives, Ozil
especially needs to stay close enough to him to receive the ball because we all know he's gonna make a terrible decision the closer he gets to goal.
When Francis Coquelin was recalled from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic in December
as result of the injury crisis in
midfield, most Arsenal fans would not have been very pleased,
especially considering that Wenger could have dipped into the January market to sign a new defensive
midfielder.
But comparing him to our former captain and
midfield warrior Patrick Vieira may seem a bit premature,
especially as the former Gunner was more of an all - round player, helping the attacking side and chipping in with a few goals in every season.
A better
midfield doesn't always translate to more scoring chances for the striker,
especially since our
midfield actually scores goals
as well.
To move forward, they need to acquire more quality,
especially in defence and in the middle of the park
as a quality defensive
midfielder would be a great addition to the squad.
They range from the straight forward idea that he was simply not good enough which is a slightly more polite version of calling him a four letter expletive but the sense is the same, to the idea that Wenger made a mistake,
especially when the calls for a defensive
midfielder who can play centre back are
as loud
as they are right now.
