comprehension,
especially in the most important space
on the entire site.
Despite all the emphasis
on reading programs and encouraging students to read, many children,
especially minority students, still do not read with a high level of
comprehension and fluency, independently, or for fun, according to Dr. Sally M. Reis, a professor and the department head of the educational psychology department at the University of Connecticut where she also serves as principal investigator of the National Research Center
on the Gifted and Talented.
The overall picture is consistent with the earlier process - product research to some extent,
especially with regard to engagement, but goes beyond it in ways consistent with Duffy, Roehler, et al.'s (1987) direct explanation approach and Knapp and associates» (1995) emphasis
on higher - order literacy instruction (i.e., instruction which emphasizes
comprehension and communication).
But here's why I'm worried about leaving out the link between those subjects and reading
comprehension: Even if we got rid of high - stakes reading tests tomorrow (which is unlikely to happen), people would still place a huge emphasis
on teaching kids to read,
especially in the early grades.
There's a lot of reading
comprehension fail (for example, in this particular case, the illogical inference that noting a problem with Amazon's position a priori means one is
on the «side» of Hachette,
especially when I've taken pains to note both companies work for their interest, not mine), and it's not my job to wander about the field, gently teaching people how to parse arguments.

on grammar and spelling included in the Robinson home school curriculum and of several sections of the curriculum's course of study,
especially examinations in reading
comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary.
