Although the core principles of
law in the UAE are drawn from Sharia
law, most legislation is comprised of a mix of Islamic and European
concepts of civil
law, which have a
common root in the Egyptian legal code
established in the late 19th to 20th centuries.
So my understanding is that the phrase «
common law» can refer to either the
concept of
laws established by court precedent or it can refer to a specific body of
laws that have been
established that way.
