on man's inner

on spiritual quality and
ethical devotion, as the stronger emotions ceased being merely anger or grief and became also penitence, aspiration, moral idealism, and the love of God, the word ruach expanded its meanings to cover the case.
True
ethical conduct means developing your own code that fits (and can be refitted) to human
life on earth.

In his Stages
on Life's Way (SLW), Kierkegaard speaks of irony as the means by which persons make the transition between aesthetic and
ethical awareness, and humor as the means for making the transition between
ethical and religious awareness.
On the
ethical and cultural side, they need to help the public as a whole to understand that the nihilism permeating contemporary
life is the inevitable consequence of apostasy.
Capitalistic globalization, not being motivated by
ethical norms and concerns, does not pay adequate attention to the care of nature and the preservation of the natural environment for the good of all

The disputed elements center mainly in the bearing of the Kingdom
on the
ethical demands of the present
life in relation to what lies beyond it in a realm that transcends human history — that is, in the relations of ethics to eschatology.
The acquisition of material wealth was certainly
on the agenda too, but the primary purpose was to create a community that would support an
ethical and spiritual

Women are critical in molding the
ethical consciousness of families — to deal with the pressure of modern
life and the demands it makes,
on particularly the young, to break out of the norm and to experiment with

The erosion of the soil in areas that have been abused for their mineral wealth, the pollution of the air where poor people
live, are not just facts of nature; what we have is an
ethical judgement
on the exploitation of natural resources by the rich at the expense of the poor.
She has both her Masters in Theology and a Masters in Education, and yet she writes: «I am in a very difficult and
life - threatening marital situation and it is imperative that my children and I get to safety as soon as possible (before I become a statistic of domestic violence)...» For her the
ethical choice is clear whether to

And so there
live perhaps a great multitude of men who labor off and
on to obscure their
ethical and religious understanding which would lead them out into decisions and consequences which the lower nature does not love, extending meanwhile their aesthetic and metaphysical understanding, which ethically is a distraction.
And in exploring the wide implications of it all, he noted «the risk of an alliance between democracy and
ethical relativism, which would remove any sure moral reference point from political and social
life, and
on a deeper level make the acknowledgement of truth impossible» (VS 101) and warned us, as he had done in an earlier encyclical, that «As history demonstrates, a democracy without values easily turns into open or thinly disguised totalitarianism».
But when he's
on the field, this is not the time to share the gospel, but to
live the gospel by being the most hard - working, honest,
ethical, cheerful, and dependable quarterback he can possibly be.
The kingdom then becomes moral and
ethical obedience to God's call within the total sweep of personal and social
living, with special emphasis
on the human responsibility to correct the evils of an unjust and unloving society.
My concern here is to develop a religio -
ethical perspective centered
on life and the quest for enjoyment in a science - based technological age.
First of all, while I have here focused
on the global dimensions of contemporary
life by way of spelling out the biopolitical task, it would be my contention that the fundamental categories I have employed could be used to deal with the whole range of social -
ethical problems.
He holds simultaneously that existing democratic ideas, traditions, and institutions were often championed in actual history by those who were non-Christians or even anti-Christian; and yet that, in building better than they knew, such persons were often generating in human temporal
life constructs whose foundations were not only consistent with Jewish and Christian convictions about the realities of
ethical and political
life, but in a sense dependent
on them.
The question is: What is the reason for man's existence
on earth, as a
living person, as an
ethical personality, as an entity stretching out towards something beyond this present
life and finally embracing the eschaton?
The commandments that govern the
life of the Jew and the Christian are strictly categorical in nature, as indeed are most
ethical codes based
on theistic sources.
At least seven immense, interdependent threats to the quality of
life on spaceship earth continue to escalate: the population explosion; the widening gulf between rich and poor nations; massive malnutrition (caused mainly by economic injustice, which produces maldistribution of available food); environmental pollution and degradation; the depletion of the irreplaceable resources of our finite planet; the growing threat of nuclear terrorism and eventual holocaust (with the equivalent of one and a half million Hiroshima - sized bombs in the arsenals of the world); and the worldwide tendency for the fruits of science and technology to be used without
ethical responsibility.
That original conception, which has never ceased to be operative, was based
on an imaginative religious and moral conception of
life that took account of a much broader range of social,
ethical, aesthetic, and religious needs than the utilitarian model can deal with.
Ethical mysticism,
on the other hand (also called «mysticism of actuality»), results in world - and
life - affirmation, holds that the World - Spirit or God remains ultimately a mystery, and bases its incomplete view of the nature of things
on an encompassing
life view.
And although we need not agree fully with Heidegger that the origin or source of willing and acting is care, or that the source of conscience is care, we can agree for Whitehead that care and
ethical life are correlated in a way they need not be in an authoritarian ethics based
on obedience and fear.
Schweitzer shows how the Franciscan spirit in its very directness of attack
on the problem of ethics finds perplexities which force a reappraisal of the foundations of
ethical life.
And that which distinguishes him is not merely the sureness with which, in questions as to the way of
life or the chief commandment, he chooses from the Law the
ethical commands as alone binding; (Mark 10:19, 12:29 - 31) for even
on this point Jewish teachers stand beside him.
However, working and researching
on egg and sperm, as they aren't individual human
lives, we have very little
ethical concerns about that.»
This is evidenced in such things as Barth's eschatologically oriented framework of creation, reconciliation and redemption; his focus
on promise and hope rather than the present possession of God's reign; the reconfiguration of experience as a determination toward the future; the placing of the divine summons to action — the
ethical life — at the summit of each volume of his doctrinal work; and, above all, his refusal to make his theology an apology for Christendom or to give priority to the established church.
Such modern
ethical dilemmas as these come to a focus in the realization that the Apostle Paul knew fully as well as we that we must
live out our
lives on the horns of a cosmic dilemma.
