None of the four FFT
evaluations found negative effects, and three are well toward the upper end of the distribution.
Figure 1 contains a histogram, plotted by Mark Lipsey, showing the number of family therapy evaluations demonstrating various effect sizes.33 Although a number of
evaluations found negative effects, the average for all is well above zero.

finding worth noting: In terms of overall life
evaluation, a 1 percent increase in the share of taxable income held by the top 1 percent has the same
negative effect in life satisfaction as a 1.4 percent rise in the country - level unemployment rate.
Two recent experimental
evaluations of the Louisiana Scholarship Program
found negative effects of the program on student test scores but one study was limited to just a single year of outcome data and the second one (which I am leading) has only analyzed two years of outcome data so far.
Indeed, there was not one single
negative finding over the entire course of the
evaluation.
The study's authors speculate on four potential explanations for the large
negative effects that their program
evaluation found: misalignment of private school curriculum to the Louisiana State Standards; differences between serving scholarship students with achievement gaps and traditional private school students; success of other education developments, especially in New Orleans; and the overall quality of private schools willing to participate in the program.
The researchers of this
evaluation find that this large effect is driven by even larger significant,
negative effects for students who started in earlier grades — first through third grades — and somewhat smaller nonsignificant,
negative effects for students who started in later grades: fourth through sixth.19
There were two
negative findings from the
evaluation.
In contrast, low global self - esteem has been
found to be associated with
negative self -
evaluations, characterized by self - doubts and self - rejection (Baumeister, Campbell, Krueger, & Vohs, 2003) and has been shown to predict stress symptoms and ill - health (Birndorf, Ryan, Auinger, & Aten, 2005).

negative mood states, social problems, and pathophysiological processes all interact to perpetuate the illness.8 9 Treatment aims at helping patients to re-evaluate their understanding of the illness and to adopt more effective coping behaviours.7 8 9 An early uncontrolled
evaluation of this type of treatment produced promising results in many patients but was unacceptable to some.10 Two subsequent controlled trials
found cognitive behaviour therapy to offer no benefit over non-specific management.11 12 However, the form of cognitive behaviour therapy evaluated may have been inadequate.
