That can make things a little tougher for tracking and
even promoting your book with the various vendors, but it actually has no impact
on something else a lot of authors covet: The

Even if your eventual goal is to make the NYTimes
bestseller list, start with a goal of making back your investment
on your book.
Even the hottest
bestsellers on the shelves are being formatted to e-readers so that they can be enjoyed by readers anywhere
on devices like the Kindle.
Your book will be fully professionally edited, designed, published, and
even launched with a strategy to land you as a
bestseller on Amazon.
But there's been no one huge book promotion hit — no, not
even an appearance
on «Oprah» — that can guarantee an author will sell a specific number of books
on a given day, or that the number of books sold will be enough to catapult the book to the
bestseller lists.
Even if you write a book better than that international
bestseller in your genre category, it will languish in the Kindle store and
on the bookshelf unless you convince readers to take a risk and invest time in reading it.
And once you're
on the NYTimes
Bestseller list, the interest of NY publishers becomes
even more intense.
If you are an indie author through a small press or
on your own without a nationally recognized brand
on your score card, and you utilize the print -
on - demand technology for your physical books, you will not jump
on a
bestseller list within a week or
even a month of your book being available for sale.
Yet, many authors base their fantasy life
on being in a brick and mortar bookstore —
even though they basically know that only
bestsellers are found there.
I am currently only published
on Amazon so
even though my sales rank has been in the Top 100 Paid for weeks, I won't be adding «New York Times
Bestseller» to my covers anytime soon.
Income from commercial publications through the subsidization allows supporting poets, scientists, and
even those authors of new and daring texts, who will never appear
on the
bestseller lists.
