here — Desmond's vengeful father Tom (Hugo Weaving)-- is given the
screen time that allows him to come across as a real but horrifically flawed man.
The actor is one of those guys who you recognize when he comes on
screen even if you can't name him, but really shines in a rare leading part
here, with our review calling him «particularly excellent, affecting and funny.»
Without the flaming red hair of her star - making role in «Run Lola Run,» the effortlessly likable Potente easily holds the
screen,
even in the perfunctory «girl» role she's saddled with
here.
It's not uncommon for Godzilla to share the
screen with other monsters (he's battled giant moths, sea monsters, flying dragons and
even robots), but as the singular title character, his role
here is at best supporting if not mere extended cameo.

screen debut of Mr. Tom Hanks,
