In his Guerre Pace (War's Peace) body of work Bertolo sought to consider the contradiction between the «willingness of human beings to inflict suffering on their neighbors and
the evident pointlessness of history» and concurrently, «the serenity and quiet joy of family intimacy.»
The
pointlessness of the project becomes painfully
evident in the third act, when we are treated to a plot twist that seems thrown in to divert us from the fact that the older woman - younger man relationship offers nothing in the way of insight.
