Many of those have been brutal, too, in the hands of road testers in big group tests (including
evo Car of the Year) and on trackdays in my spare time, including one at Belgium's tricky Spa circuit.
No fewer than 16 have featured in
evo Car of the Year since 1998 - nine have won the title — and many in between have grabbed the attention (and quite often hearts) of evo's road testers.

You might remember the Broadley from
evo's 2014 Track
Car of the
year event, where it scored a podium position with the Porsche 911 GT3 and Ariel Atom 3.5 R.
If it's lacking something it's more
of the character and playfulness
of the Rallye — the Mini's handling is just a touch inert — but it's still a cracking little entry - level
evo car, and on this evidence one that wears its
years well.
It won our
car of the
year title in 2014 and we almost declared it the best
car we had ever tested in
evo's first 200 issues.
It's just another perfect snapshot
of a perfect journey, and
evo's idea
of a proper party to celebrate 50
years of the maddest and most extraordinary
car manufacturer there's ever been.
Looking very similar to the Audi Q8 concept
car first revealed at the Detroit motor show last
year, the production Q8 will share much
of the concept's basic proportions and detailing while riding on the same MLB -
Evo platform that also underpins the Q7.
And far from being a basic Clio tweaked for racing purposes, the Junior
cars are identical to the full Clio Cup
cars you'll have seen trading paint as a BTCC support series (and seen in
evo's 2014 Track
car of the
year test).

John Maxwell - For John it was quite a step up from a mk2 Cavalier to an 8 - valve Integrale, both in terms
of performance and running costs — during six and a half
years of ownership he spent # 13,500, and although he has now sold the
car, he's currently on the hunt for an
Evo II.
