Exam regulator Ofqual have explained that there will be «significant improvements» to the process of
appealing against GCSE and A-level results, with proposals for a better
system announced later this month.
Ofqual is launching a consultation to overhaul the
appeals system, with annual figures revealing a significant increase in the remarking of
exam papers.
The regulator has also decided not to introduce a «red alert»
system to try and catch erroneous marks before they are released to students, and says it has no power to ask
exam boards to lower the price of marking
appeals in deprived areas.
