For example, she
examines why some people — but not others — choose to avoid situations that facilitate
relationship initiation, how people's offers and requests for support change as partners develop close
relationships, and how unique features of the
relationship context shape partners» physiological, behavioral, and psychological responses to stressful situations in newly - formed
relationships.
I had also
examined whether the type of
relationship onset (i.e., being friends first, measured for the
initiation stage) was associated with perceived similarity at the current stage, and it was not.
The first issue we
examine is the degree to which partners view the work of
relationship initiation and maintenance as balanced (i.e., shared equally) versus imbalanced.
The third issue we
examine is how the perceived balance of the work of
relationship initiation and maintenance is associated with
relationship satisfaction and commitment.
Nonetheless, regardless of its origin, the gender difference we found certainly warrants future investigation, including in research that
examines balance (or equity) not only in
relationship initiation and maintenance, but also in other areas of the
relationship (resources contributed, household chores, etc.).
The goals of this investigation were to

relationships is perceived as doing more of the work of

relationship maintenance; and (3) relational outcomes (e.g, satisfaction) associated with the perceptions of balance versus imbalance in the work of
relationship initiation and maintenance.
While at UNB, her research
examined sexual
initiation, sexual compliance, attraction, oral sex motives, and the content of web - based pornography.Her dissertation
examined the association between violated romantic expectations (e.g., love at first sight, destiny) and
relationship outcomes in young adults» dating
relationships.
Next, we
examined whether there were differences in the degree to which the male partner versus the female partner was perceived as doing more of the work of

By using a longitudinal approach the current study
