In «The Common Core Takes Hold,» Robert Rothman of the Alliance
for Excellent Education acknowledges a number of McShane's concerns: states» shrinking budgets will likely impact the funding necessary
for implementation; there is little to no quality monitoring of the new resources that are being created; the new assessments — and the technology required to implement them — are hugely expensive; the public at large is poorly informed and their support
for the standards is waning; and a significant drop in
student test scores following implementation of Common Core - aligned assessments is a real concern.
