As with all sports, make sure your four - legged - friend is not sore before joining in and doesn't suffer any injuries or
excessive water consumption as this can be deadly.
While some owners have noticed that their pets seem to be drinking more than usual, our experience is that most owners are surprised when the urinalysis
shows excessive water consumption.
Hyponatremia occurs where sodium levels in the blood become dangerously low due to
excessive water consumption.
The excessive water consumption can indicate several diseases.

Dogs that truly have
excessive water consumption will consume vastly more than this regularly.
Conditions that lead to
excessive water consumption (there are probably a dozen such conditions and they are all more common in older cats versus younger cats but most are ruled out with a basic blood panel).
Respondents reported that they were prompted to take their dogs to the vet because the dogs were exhibiting (in order of frequency) frequent or inappropriate urination or loss of bladder control,
excessive water consumption, lethargy, anorexia, vomiting, weight loss, dilute urine, and / or any of several other signs which were reported by 3 or fewer respondents.
The hallmark signs of diabetes mellitus are
excessive water consumption, excessive urination, excessive hunger and weight loss.
In most infected dogs the main feature is
excessive water consumption a week or two after an episode of unexplained fever (rather than sudden inability to make urine as is usually seen in an acute kidney failure situation.)
