Carell, who began to shed his «gross - out - comedy - actor» tag in 2014's «Foxcatcher», continues to demonstrate his skill as one of the most
exciting dramatic actors working today while Gosling is on fine, flashy & quick - fire form in his best role since «Crazy Stupid Love» and a superb supporting cast includes an always excellent Rafe Spall and «New Girl's Max Greenfield who delivers a brilliant turn as a nauseatingly hilarious mortgage broker.
That alone would be reason to get
excited, and Coogler makes good on the landmark project's potential by featuring a predominantly black ensemble, casting some of the best young
actors around — from Chadwick Boseman (who proved his
dramatic chops playing James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall in recent years) to Michael B. Jordan (even more buff, and twice as charismatic, than he appeared in the director's two previous features, «Fruitvale Station» and «Creed»)-- as well as such legends as Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett.
