abstract paintings are the subject
of the solo show «Sea & Sky» at
Exhibit A Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.
The artist is also
exhibiting a series
of abstract landscape paintings, inspired by the Spanish countryside.
This includes the Elbe linocuts from 1957; several rarely reproduced or
exhibited black - and - white
landscapes, including «Alps II»; a magnificent triptych
of Cloud paintings from the early 1970s; the monumental, 65 ft. long
abstract «Stroke (on Red),» and many
of his overpainted photographs.
By 1925, she was teaching
landscape painting,
abstract design, and woodcut printing at UCLA, and
exhibiting works at The Los Angeles Museum (1923, 1929) and The Fine Arts Gallery
of San Diego (1926, 1927).
Entitled Transiens, the
exhibit, according to the artist, is a collection
of abstracted atmospheric
landscape paintings that explores the ephemeral, yet abiding, nature
of our natural surroundings.
Yurick will
exhibit photographic montages, mixed media constructions, and his «Rising Sky» series
of abstracted landscapes and wood sculptures.
Opening: «Bernard Frize: Dawn Comes Up So Young» at Galerie Perrotin French artist Bernard Frize
exhibits two new suites
of abstract paintings from the past year, along with an earlier group
of non-representational canvases that evoke traditional Chinese
landscape paintings.

exhibiting a group show with Phellippe Pasqua, Ofer Lellouche, Yuval Yairi and others.
Swartz will
exhibit a survey
of recent work that demonstrates a newfound synthesis and complexity in her approach to
abstracting the natural
landscape.
Garishly beautiful and ebullient, these pastoral hallucinations hark back to the horizontal line drawings
of the late sixties, and beyond them, to Artschwager's earliest
exhibited work: the
abstract landscapes that Donald Judd admired back in 1959, with their «quick, spiked strokes,... communicative
of abbreviation.»
Described by the curator John Elderfield as «think - tough, paint - tough» due to their imposing scale and vigorously expressive brushwork, the pieces from the series include First Creatures from 1959, an
abstract, indeterminate
landscape exhibited here for the first time, and Mediterranean Thoughts from 1960, in which Frankenthaler's looping skeins
of poured paint create partitions
of varying sizes, leaving very little exposed canvas.
