exhibition also seeks
to obliterate the ease with which the Abstract Expressionists have been categorised into two main groups, the color - field painters such
as Mark Rothko and Helen Frankenthalter and the so -
called «
action - painters» of Pollock and de Kooning fame.
The
exhibition's wry title, «Daddy, I want
to be a black artist», can be seen
as a playful
call to action for young people
to find inspiration in the works of black British artists and become the artists of tomorrow.
The artist has been known

called «renegade
actions» 5 — an edgy, organic process counteracting the
exhibition -
as - frozen - moment, whereby small elements move or disappear, changes invisible
to all but a repeat, discerning visitor and the artist himself.

action, symbolism and elements of sport
to call attention
to narratives that are overlooked, and
as a method
to innovate beyond the social and cultural circumstances of everyday life.
