exhibition of Isamu Noguchi - inspired work by 30 Pratt graduate interior
design students is on
display at the Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, Queens through June 28.
The new building,
designed by Adjaye Associates, with Cooper Robertson as executive architects and program planning consultants, will enable the Studio Museum to better serve its growing and diverse audiences, provide additional educational opportunities to museumgoers from toddlers to seniors, expand its world - renowned
exhibitions of art by artists of African descent and influenced and inspired by black culture, and effectively
display its singular collection of artwork from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Kamrooz Aram, a Brooklyn - based artist whose works often challenge a modernist disdain for decoration, shares his thoughts on ornament and its complex relationship to modernist painting and
exhibition design as demonstrated in his own varied practice in which painting, collage, sculpture, and the art of

display are: 432Hz (2009 - 2014), a wooden shell that contains honeycombs; Vorkuta (2003), a refrigeration chamber where the temperature of -30 °C contrasts with a chair maintained at a constant +37 °C by an internal thermostat; Mindfall (2004 - 2007), a container which contains a chair and tables, on which 21 electric motors turn on intermittently, one after the other, creating a sort of musical composition; Untitled (2003), a small iron room crossed by blasts of hot and cold air channelled into the space by powerful fans; and Sub (2014), a new work specially created for the
exhibition at HangarBicocca, an assembly of aluminium and glass
display units which the artist originally
designed to exhibit her Inner Disorder (1999 - 2001) series of drawings.
The students researched Noguchi's history, studied select objects included in the Museum's Highlights from the Collection: Iconic
Display exhibition, and applied their knowledge to
design a hypothetical annex for the Museum in the Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO.

Inventing Downtown
displays 23 works from this show, including Grooms's exuberant ink drawing Untitled (Street scene with monster)(c. 1958), a selection of vastly different street scenes by Mimi Gross, Lester Johnson, and Sari Dienes, as well as the
