Rare Books and Prints at Henry Sotheran — Visit one
of the oldest antiquarian
book and print dealers in the world and see its new
exhibition about writer and artist William Blake.
Gathering together extensive documentation and
rare archive material on the numerous
exhibitions they organized together from 1995 on, the
book is introduced by art theorist and friend
of the artist Max Wechsler, who followed West's work closely for many years, and whose illuminating foreword begins: «Without doubt, he was an odd bird, a gifted idler, a Vienna man sui generis and eccentric par excellence.»
Organized by the National Gallery
of Art and curated by Paige Rozanski, curatorial assistant in the department
of modern art, and Yuri Long,
rare book librarian, this
exhibition is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
In the
Rare Book Room, expect to find original art by Sadie Laska, Brad Phillips, Richard Prince and a preview
of an upcoming
exhibition with Boston - based artist Matthew King.
Presenting over one hundred works that underscore the great scope
of the Morgan's collecting interests, the
exhibition includes old - master and modern drawings, literary and musical manuscripts, illuminated texts, and
rare printed
books and bindings.
Drawing artist's
books and archival material together with a
rare work in video, the
exhibition maps the indeterminate and the potential as sources
of the work's ongoing significance.
The
exhibition features
rare maps, engravings, drawings, photographs,
books, and videos that range from Hernán Cortés» map
of Tenochtitlán (1524) to Le Corbusier's sketches made during his visit to Buenos Aires (1929).

The British Library holds distinguished collections
of original maps, artworks and journals from the voyages and, alongside
rare printed
books and newly commissioned video content, the
exhibition will seek to shed new light on encounters that completed the outline
of the known world and formed the starting point for the following two centuries
of globalisation.
The
exhibition situates these works in the context
of rare historical
books, comics, newspapers, and related ephemera, from Alain LeRoy Locke's The New Negro (1925) and Wallace Thurman's quarterly Fire!!
The Frick's presentation — the first major
exhibition devoted to the artist outside his native France — assembles forty - eight works on paper and in wax, terracotta, plaster, marble, and bronze, as well as
rare nineteenth - century
books of photographs and engravings; many
of these have never before been exhibited.
