The John Moores Painting Prize winner 2014, Rose Wylie, 82 is the subject of a major new exhibition at Turner Contemporary's ground floor Sunley Gallery, where they will be exhibiting a group of paintings and works on paper.
This groundbreaking exhibition follows the artist's exploration of interlined topics, including a halting suite of works about 9/11; contemporary «history paintings» on life in America since the events of 9/11; homages to his friends, the women quilt makers of Gee's Bend, Ala.; memories of vanishing ways of life and his childhood in the the South; and evocations of human struggles for freedom.
The exhibition, the artist's first solo show of paintings in New York in six years, continues to reveal Taaffe as a philosopher of painting, offering compelling meditations on art and culture, both contemporary and historical, and visual ruminations on the interrelated families of forms and images in art, architecture, and archaeology.

On view October 22, 2016 — January 22, 2017, this exhibition surveys the state of representational painting at the beginning of the 21st century and features approximately 40 works by 20 contemporary realist artists from throughout the United States and Canada.
The book, edited by Trevor Schoonmaker, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Nasher, brilliantly presents a masterful look at the figurative painting, a selection of which can be seen in the next iteration of Soul of a Nation, which opened earlier this month at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, as well as in the exhibition catalogue, available from the Tate, which features Hendricks» painting «What's Going On» (1974) on the coveOn» (1974) on the coveon the cover.
The exhibition comprises a broad range of works across a variety of mediums — including painting, performance, photography, sculpture, video, and web - based projects — that all investigate the extensive effects of the internet on artistic practice and contemporary culture.
