conversations with the right mindset, i.e.
to listen to the other person, and treat the
experience as an opportunity
to discover something new.
The other side of the coin of
listening to a wide variety of
experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is that social media allows
conversations.
Have
conversations with children about their
experiences including
listening to their point of view and non-verbal communications, as children's behaviour shows how they are feeling (e.g., acknowledging their efforts and frustration, encouraging them and letting them know you are there
to help if needed using words, smiles and hugs).
This could include how
to start a
conversation, how
to talk about your own
experience rather than criticizing the other, how
to make the other feel really understood, using empathic
listening vs. problem solving
listening and more.
