woman] and celibacy as the two given norms for sexual expression.
The goal is to show how scripture, tradition, reason, and
experience all support a posture
of equality toward
women, one that favorsmutuality rather than hierarchy,
in the home,
Church, and society.
One young
woman asked me this question with tears streaming down her face, for she had been made to feel small and worthless by
churches like these, and she lived
in fear that thousands upon thousands
of women were
experiencing the same thing and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
In today's consumer - oriented, capitalistic culture, where people are used, abused and disposed of like nonreturnable soft - drink cans, where «liberation» has been invoked to justify selfishness, it may be that the time has come for the church to say again what it has always believed — that there is no way for individuals to «flourish» without the kind of communion and community and the permanent, deep, risky commitment that true Christian love demands — qualities that are perhaps best experienced in the yoking of a man and a woman in marriag

At the same time,
in Brazil, there is one offshoot
of the Universal
Church started by
women and largely directed by them, and the testimony
of many
women is that their
experience of the Spirit has given them a new identity.

I wish that all your readers were cognizant
of this, yet
in my own
experiences as a writer who advocates for the full and equal inclusion
of women in the
church, I am all too familiar with the push back.
Eugene Peterson said
in an interview with Jonathan Merritt at Religion News Service that he «hasn't had a lot
of experience» with homosexuality but had attended
churches as an associate pastor where several
women were lesbians.

women's groups turned from primary concern with the institutional
church to community projects, as a result
of the «new flavor» developed
in the groups through interpersonal deepening.20 It has been my

church meetings, including worship services, can be enlivened by incorporating small group communication and awareness

in tongues.The people
in this
church were leaders from Africa.A place who sees more supernatural then us because we feel the need to analyze the thing to death.When we did the atmosphere shifted lives were changed.When i was on a mission trip to Mexico i felt lead to go pray with the
women who
in that culture are outcasts one
of ladies who came with me started singing
in the spirit as i was we stopped each other
in shock when we realized we were sing the same song the needs
of the
women were met with out an interrupter.
We can not know the meaning
of Jesus
in the early
church except as we know what he actually was within the
experience of the men and
women who formed the community.
The
Church is the sphere
in which Christian faith is known and Christian life
experienced; it is the area
in which men and
women, captivated by the dynamic appeal
of the Lord Christ, respond to that Lord and find their little human existence redeemed and enriched and made significant.
All
of the above symptoms are classic traits that
women —
in our families,
in our
churches,
in our workplaces and schools —
experience in the deepest recesses
of their stricken souls while we pass by unknowing.
