Looking back
on that
experience I honestly don't think it was a
spiritual event any more than many other events are (though I believe all events have a
spiritual counterpart just as there are different physical
levels of the universe way can overlay
on any given system)
I think everyone needs some kind of «
spiritual»
experience, but I define that to include good music at a concert, being a sports fan, a surfer, a mountain climber, a hunter, or any of a hundred similar activities that touch people emotionally
on some deep
level.
However, the
experience impacted me
on an emotional and
spiritual level that had not been touched in the hospital births.
When you consider that we are
spiritual beings having a human
experience, this takes
on another
level of resonance.

on deep and profound
levels.
For a book whose title sounds like an affirmation of faith but whose story is about an atheist refuting the existence of God, reading it is a
spiritual experience... Many of the positive reviews laud the wit and entertainment Goldstein provides, but honestly, the breadth and depth of ideas covered require close and thoughtful reading... This novel can be read
on a few different
levels: a romance, a mystery, an intellectual thriller or a philosophical / religious treatise.
Parenthood in my 30s led me to take up my
spiritual journey, and after several decades of being active in Unitarian Universalism, in my 60s I have also come to think of myself as a progressive Christian as well as a UU — a return to the faith I grew up in, but
on a different
level, taking scripture seriously but not literally (and for me, serious literature can be scripture too, especially poetry, and scriptures of other faiths...) I am content to say God is a mystery, a word we use to point to all that is good and beautiful and healing, a creative energy at work that we can
experience through our loving relationships, through art and music, through the pursuit of science, and in the «church» of nature.
In each class I took with Pilar, she altered the class based
on the
experience level of here students and
on the physical, emotional and
spiritual needs of her classes.
On a more
spiritual level, a great speaker should truthfully convey the emotional and sensory
experience the director, musician or sound engineer intended us to feel and never get in the way.
Assessment and intervention happen
on all relevant
levels of the human
experience — including the emotional, cognitive, social, physical, behavioral, moral and
spiritual.
Whether we have an established relationship with a faith community or are
on an individual
spiritual journey, there are times when
experienced spiritual guidance can open up new
levels of understanding and
experience.
