The
exhibition takes its title from the Habitat 67, an
experimental residential structure
designed by Israeli - Canadian architect Moshe Safdie.
The uses of imagery and materials in this
exhibition are wide - ranging and
experimental: rhinestones, sand, matches, cowrie shells, handmade set
designs, appropriated sports footage, family snapshots, found objects from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and black contemporary and historical icons such as Harriet Tubman, Paul Robeson, Nigerian Cardinal Francis Arinze, John Coltrane and Terrell Owens.
Housed in a striking Zaha Hadid -
designed building, over the past three years the museum has continued to broaden its
experimental and international scope with
exhibitions and programs that transcend genres and create a platform for dialogue locally, nationally, and internationally.
She has curated a number of
exhibitions and
experimental design projects across Europe, and was the co-founder and director of The Gopher Hole, an
