I always feel that stocks from companies outside the U.S. offer greater growth opportunity (and, of course, the risks that come along with the opportunity), therefore a
bigger exposure to foreign stocks will provide long term benefits for my investments.
@Randy: I vaguely recall a study by Leith Wheeler that you can obtain all the benefits of diversification with a 30 %
exposure to foreign stocks.
Similarly, they might purchase a collection of mutual funds that give
them exposure to foreign stocks and to the bond market.
If you want to go for more a bit more gusto, you can add
some exposure to foreign stocks.
