On DVD next week, Let It Shine is presented exclusively in an
extended edition, which likely
runs a good 15 minutes longer than the version broadcast.
Apatow's
extended editions are known for their gratuitous length but then so are his theatrical cuts, and while there exists, on some VHS tape in some Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse, no doubt, a version of Planes, Trains & Automobiles with a
running time that would humble David Lean (ditto The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off), the theatrical release — no less a «director's cut» at a mere 92 minutes, as Hughes was his own producer by this point — demonstrates ruthless craftsmanship.
The 1998 Criterion DVD also featured seven deleted scenes, but this new
edition runs 38 minutes of
extended and deleted scenes (of vastly differing quality) and some bloopers together.
BTW, there are actually THREE cuts of the film on the special
edition blu - ray: — Theatrical Release —
Extended Cut (16 minutes longer)-- Special
Edition Re-Release (8 minutes longer)-- This version was released in theatres late in the
run.

In its home - video debut, Date Night goes out on the town with a Blu - ray + Digital Copy special
edition that presents both the Theatrical Version and a newly available
Extended Version, the latter
running about thirteen minutes longer than the theatrical cut.
The main selling point of the Blu - Ray
edition is that it boasts an
extended director's cut of the film that
runs three minutes longer than the 115 minutes long theatrical version.
Unlike the «Lord of the Rings»
extended editions, which featured characters and arcs deleted from the books to appease a
running time, the «Hobbit»
extended scenes were larks and just added a little more depth to Middle - earth.
The poster will be on sale as an
extended timed
edition release, available now at Mondo and
running through May 19th when Alien: Covenant is released in theaters.
What's best of all, is you have the choice to watch the more succinct theatrical cut, or the
extended edition which puts Ghosts at a more feature - length
running time.
But be forewarned: Even though this is the
extended version the director didn't get to show in theaters, the
run time on this
edition is only 3 minutes longer than the last.
