Pack your bags, forget the sunscreen, bring
an extra big coat.

Waistcoats, prior to the 1780s, buttoned to just below the waistline and had a little skirt of
extra fabric, and
coats were usually long (to about the knee) with tight sleeves and a slightly
bigger cuff.
The
extra length makes a
big difference in how much warmth the
coat provides (15F is our high today, and it will get colder all week) while the light weight keeps the
extra length from feeling like just too much
coat.
Since I did this photo shoot, it has gotten A LOT chillier in Vancouver, so now I would definitely need to be rocking some tights for
extra warmth... as well as a
big coat!
An as much as I know finding the right
coat is key it's not the easiest to find, I know what styles suit me, I'm always conscious of
coats being too padded or
big & making me look
big with all the
extra padding.
Here are a few more before pics — The room was barely
big enough for a queen bed and the dresser you see above, but it also held all of our
coats and tons of other junk we managed to cram in there (linens, our iron, shoes, etc.) Pete and I thoroughly edited our
coat collection, tossed the 10 + year old mattress, and gave the
extra bedding to friends and family.
We had a
big coat closet by the front door that we didn't use for
coats... so he put shelves in it and I can store
extra dishes and «stuff» there.
