and Society, women who become mothers today
face more scrutiny
during pregnancy and after they become mothers — especially where baby feeding is concerned.
Some 350,000 women die each year

after giving birth, with women in sub-Saharan Africa, Pakistan
and Afghanistan
facing the highest risks.

and direct assessments took place in examination rooms situated at our two research sites, including the Hamamatsu University Hospital
and Kato Maternity Clinic,
during the second trimester of
pregnancy,
and from 1 to 96 months
after delivery.
