«No one wants to talk
about the
fact that the
black hole never really goes away,» says Jerry Colonna, who in 2014 founded Reboot.io, a Boulder company that helps executives address their emotions via intensive workshops.
In
fact our entire local group has way stronger a pull, that supermassive
black hole probably was significant in imparting the angular momentum of our galaxy, but that's
about it.
From there they built a convincing case that Sagittarius A * was in
fact a
black hole — the biggest one in the galaxy, with a mass 4.3 million times that of the sun and a diameter of
about 25 million kilometers.
(The
fact that this hasn't had catastrophic effects on Earth, if it happens at all, is one reason that researchers at the CERN particle physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, are so confident that scare stories
about black holes being produced by their Large Hadron Collider are baseless.)
So the very
fact that we exist here on earth to talk
about these things tells us that even if
black holes are produced, pretty much everything is very safe.
It comes from the spinning space - time around the
black hole and in
fact it is not very well known, but that energy is there for the taking — up to 29 percent of the so - called rest mass energy of a spinning
black hole is extractable — an d original conjecture, which is not, as I say [said], yet established
fact, but certainly taken much more seriously than it was at that time — 10 or 15 percent of the rest mass energy of the
black hole,
about half of the spin energy, is in practice according to our conjecture, is in
fact, the power source for these relativistically moving jets.
Most people would probably agree that astronomy is an inspiring subject, blowing our minds with astonishing
facts about exploding stars, extrasolar planets and supermassive
black holes while beguiling our eyes with awesome vistas of alien worlds and distant galaxies.
The
fact that those
black holes were more massive than was thought possible - weighing in at
about 29 and 36 times the mass of the Sun - is intriguing in itself.
