He's been quieter since he was given the job of delivering
fairer access to universities, although the bureaucratic system he's creating suggests he can still be a Premier League problem when he puts his mind to it.

Fair access to university is crucial for achieving equality of opportunity, and there is a clear issue of principle here.
It is true
the Fair Access to University Group (FAUG) of Tory MPs made the headlines with their report predicting «Armageddon» upon Ebdon's appointment, but very few Tory politicians with ministerial seats would be in favour of fetishising students» academic attainment independently of the context where it was achieved.
The University of Cambridge has also voiced strong criticism of the changes to AS - levels, issuing a statement saying it will «jeopardise over a decade's progress towards
fairer access to the University of Cambridge».

Joel Reidenberg, a privacy expert with Fordham
University, told me, «The relevant EU rules are based on general
fair information practice standards, addressing a variety of aspects related
to fairness in collection, purpose limitations, transparency of processing, accuracy, data subject
access, and remedies for violations, and are more stringent because of their detail as well as some new twists.»
Now 23 student chapters are no longer recognized by their
universities as official student groups, losing free
access to rooms for meetings and student activities
fairs for recruiting.
The number of
universities planning on charging the maximum # 9,000 - intended by the coalition
to only be used in «exceptional circumstances» - is finally assessed by the Office for
Fair Access.
Ebdon made it clear that, if appointed, he would take his new job very seriously and impose «nuclear» financial penalties on the
universities failing
to meet the
fair access agreements.
Universities and colleges still have
to justify the additional fees
to the Office for
Fair Access, with OFFA able
to apply sanctions if necessary.
After pressure from concerned Lib Dems those
universities imposing a cap of over # 6,000 will have
to satisfy a number of «
fair access» criteria, helping ensure the poorest are not deterred from seeking a degree.
Committed
to providing
fairer and more equal
access to education, the
university is now recruiting students residing in the East Midlands for the programme, who will be able
to get scholarship support by the
university ad local charitable trust, who have contributed # 2 million towards the cost of the course.
Its president, Liam Burns, also called for more powers for the Office of
Fair Access to tackle the «entrenched bias of some
universities».

university in Canada nor are you interested in copyright,
fair dealing or open
access, that last one should be a hook for many that haven't paid attention up until now because, as my Slaw colleague Michael Lines pointed out back in April, this model deal is a swipe against the the free flow of information and an attempt
to cut open
access off at the pass, so
to speak.
York
University decision Update on the lawsuit between
Access Copyright and York
University: on July 12, 2017, the Federal Court delivered its decision in favour of
Access Copyright and ruled that York
University's guidelines (which were very similar — possibly identical —
to Université Laval's) did not meet the requirements of the
fair dealing exception.
