The nearest beach is just a five - minute walk away, and Echo Beach, with its laid back restaurants and world class surfing, just a few minutes
further along the sands.

Now that this issue's settled, perhaps it's time to take another look
farther east,
along the Sound in Peconic, where there's a significant buildup of
sand on one side of Goldsmith Inlet and continuing erosion on the other.
Further west,
along the lake, workers are trying to save a 17 mile - long
sand dune at Sandy Island Beach State Park in Pulaski.
Once saltation is well under way, by
far the majority of grains in motion are actually blasted off the
sand surface by the impacts of other saltating grains, rather than being carried
along directly by fluid forces of the wind.

along the Thames Path from Greenwich leads to rugged little beaches like this one — the Thames is as
far from white
sand and clear waters as you can get and we definitely saw some MASSIVE EELS bobbing around in the water on this day, but it still makes for something interesting and different to do in London.
Fraser Island has been formed over hundreds of thousands of years as winds, waves and ocean currents have carried
sands from the
far south - east of Australia, and from as
far away as Antarctica (but before Australian and Antarctica split from each other), out to the continental shelf, and in towards the land again in a zigzag pattern, to form a string of
sand islands
along the Queensland coast.
For a city break with a little sea and
sand thrown in, look no
further than Venice's Lido - a 7 - mile long sandbar in Venice Lagoon, located
along the Venetian Riviera.
The port town of Maumere offers diving and pretty beaches
further along the coastline, while Riung, on the dry northern coast, is the jump - off point for snorkelling and hopping around the white -
sand beaches of the Seventeen Islands.
The beach, accessed by crossing a railway crossing, is a long stretch of white
sand, fairly popular with body boarders, and a bit of walk
further along the beach will take you on to Fish Hoek - a great family beach.
Palms sway and sea oats rustle
along seven miles of
sand in Fort Lauderdale, a sun - drenched playground of seaside cafes, picturesque waterways, a chic gas - lit shopping street, and a leisurely lifestyle that makes later seem like
far too much pressure.
Apart from a handful of other luxury villas sprinkling the cliff top, and the beach huts and local cafes bordering the white
sands of Pandawa Beach
far below (named after the five warrior brothers of the Mahabharata epic, whose white stone statues are carved into niches
along the road leading down to the beach), there is little development in this unspoiled corner of Bali.
This area, the very
far north of White
Sand beach is only accessible by an amazingly steep, 600 metre long single lane, access road or by walking 15 minutes
along the beach from the main, busier area of White
Sand beach.
Located
along the southwest coast of Bali, not
far from the island's famous Tanah Lot Temple, it lies on a gentle slope between verdant rice terraces and beautiful black -
sand beaches overlooking the azure Indian Ocean.
Along the water, the
sand is compact making it enjoyable for feet to walk, the
sand thickens towards the back,
sand dunes have formed, indicating that the tide comes in pretty
far.
And even if you aren't staying at White
Sand Beach Resort, it is worth walking up there,
along the lovely beach, past the bungalows to the
far northern tip of the beach.
Further along the coast is Arenal Beach, a much busier beach with bustling bars edging the
sand.
Lucaya Beach is one of the stretches of white
sand along the southern point of Grand Bahama Island, not
far from Freeport and its many great beaches.
If you are lucky enough to have the time to spend a couple of extra nights in Playa del Carmen, use your time snorkelling in fresh water rock pools (called Cenotes), strolling
along the white
sands or for an adventure
further afield, take a ferry across to Cozumel, an island famous for its reef diving.
Zia Hotel Kuta is just a short walking distance from Kuta Beach which is a walk through the traditional style market area where you can experience the friendly vibrancy of the Balinese people and then when you reach the beach you will find that it is not as crowded as
further north
along the beach and the white
sands have a pleasant contour making this one of the nicest parts of the beach in the area.
We have two main concerns: the risk of oil spills
along the pipeline, which would traverse highly sensitive terrain, and the fact that the extraction of petroleum from the tar
sands creates
far more greenhouse emissions than conventional production does.
