How ironic therefore that
far from securing the bankrupt ideology
of right -
wing «modernisers» it has now all blown up in their faces and
far from weakening
further Party activists it has done the opposite and
left the majority
of right -
wing welfare cutting Labour MPs looking like the unrepresentative, out
of touch nasty selfish bunch
of careerists that they are.
Of course, Labour's problem is tasty: if they run a democratic
party, it becomes unelectably
left -
wing; if they run a democratic centralist one, it goes too
far to the right!
By
far its largest and most influential component remains in the
left wing of the Labour
Party.
But at a time when they have a fairly
left wing leader who was happy to say some fairly
left wing things in his speech (land grabs are very
left wing, but I digress), it was remarkable to hear so many
of the
party faithful grumbling because they didn't think Ed went
far enough to the
left.
The skepticism from the
left -
wing of the Democratic
Party could be
further exacerbated next year should Cuomo face a primary, and potential candidates include Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, former state Sen. Terry Gipson and actress and advocate Cynthia Nixon as well as New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams.
It is pretty clear that the
far left progressive / socialist / communist
wing of the Democrat
Party does not support Hillary Clinton.

Further to the
left than his rival challenger Angela Eagle, Smith is nonetheless a softer alternative to Corbyn and is therefore better positioned to bring together both
wings of the
party.
