ERIE COUNTY, NY — Erie County continues to take a proactive stance to address the serious public health crisis of
fatal opioid drug overdoses in our community.

Fentanyl, an
opioid typically is used to alleviate pain, has driven record
fatal drug overdoses in New York City.
According to documents regarding the introduction of the program, in 2015, 107 Westchester County residents died of
fatal drug overdoses, and 83 percent of those deaths were caused by heroin — many of such users started with using prescription
opioids.
The federal
Drug Enforcement Agency is setting up a new heroin enforcement team on Long Island — an epicenter of
fatal opioid overdoses in recent years.
Since the resurgence of
