I'll bet you can do the same at your house — take a look in bedrooms, family rooms, etc. for items in your favorite color that you can temporarily display in your living room.

Though our house is pretty transitional in style overall, for fall I feel like we lean a little bit more toward farmhouse - style decor, which you'll notice when you peruse our favorite fall decor items that we rounded up below!

I was looking for a light for the breakfast nook that would really make a statement and become the centerpiece of our home's design, and the Steber Bomber in Jadite from Barn Light Electric was actually the very first decor item I purchased for this house and remains my very favorite item in our home today.

For me, my favorite color it's purple and I use it in a lot of items in my house, but as you said we can't abuse or it doesn't work the way we want.

All the bottom items on the shelf is made from my daughter throughout the years and is obviously is my favorite shelf in the whole house!
