Earlier this year, scientists found an invasion in the making: A sea slug that regularly
feasts on algae was found to have absorbed algal genes — the ones used to do photosynthesis.
The one plant subspecies which reliably pumps out DHA for its own purposes is marine algae;
feasting on this algae is one reason why fish have DHA in their flesh.

algae that grow
on seagrass, ultimately helping maintain the seagrass that provides nurseries for seafood.
