While the Nest Thermostat may be the coolest smart thermostat on the block, the
Ecobee line of smart thermostats have all sorts of neat
features that the Nest Thermostat lacks.
There is a likelihood that the
Ecobee Switch + could receive more added
features through future software updates, which the company did for its
Ecobee4 smart thermostat.
A unique and especially nice
feature is the ability easily monitor both the main
Ecobee unit and remote sensors.
Similar to the
Ecobee, the Lux / Geo has a geofencing
feature built in.
From within the
Ecobee app, you can enable several
features of the Switch + that set it apart from other smart light switches.
The engineers at
ecobee jumped at the chance to help Amazon define the integration and product requirements for the new
feature.
Although it lacks the extensive smart - home networking of the comparably priced
ecobee3 lite ($ 169), its best
feature — and one the
ecobee lacks — is its geofencing, which will automatically turn the heat or air on when it senses you're getting close to your house.
Another cool
feature of the
Ecobee's usage history is «Weather Impact», which you can click on towards the bottom in the sidebar.
Ecobee's Switch + is twice as expensive as most other smart switches, but it has a ton of next - gen
features.
The
Ecobee line of thermostats have a neat
feature that can use the local weather information to determine the best way to heat or cool your house.
My favorite smart thermostat, the
Ecobee3,
features remote room sensors that wirelessly communicate temperature and occupancy information to the
Ecobee base.
Take the time to peruse the
Ecobee app to get familiar with the interface and its
features.
One major caveat here, though, is that the
ecobee 4 has a really neat
feature in that Alexa is already built in.
(
Ecobee says you can use smart bulbs in the fixtures that the Switch + controls to gain dimming
features, but that sort of defeats the purpose of putting the smarts in the wall switch.)
It's possible that other
features could be added to the Switch + via software updates, as well, as
Ecobee has improved the
Ecobee4 theremostat's
feature set and performance considerably since it launched.
Ecobee says that other
features, such as a vacation mode to automatically randomize your lights when you're not home and temperature sensing support that integrates with the
Ecobee smart thermostats are planned for release later this summer.
Looking to the future, Lombard says that
Ecobee is still preparing to release a smart light switch that
features far - field voice recognition and Wi - Fi connectivity, but that is still wired like a standard light switch.
ecobee did something similar with the
ecobee4 Thermostat, and it's nice to see this
feature make a return on the Switch +.
