We planned to introduce the new electronic
formats to our readers as optional new
features so we could «test the waters» with publishing an
ebook and see if it could increase our readers access and use
of the book content.
While the PDF capability could go a little further towards enabling more
features that users should be able to expect, this does open up the possibility
of reading PDF
formatted ebooks.
While Kobo
eBooks are released in ePub
format which can be read using a wide variety
of eBook readers there are specific
features that require a Kobo eReader to support.
To date, the
format wars in
eBooks have undermined the most important
feature of a paper book, the ability to point to a part
of the text on a certain page
of a specific edition, which is the basis
of academic and professional citation, which is the key to dialogue taking place through books.

FORMATS: With the growing demand for enhanced
ebooks which include
features such as narration, embedded media, and interactivity, it's important to consider how many
of these elements you want in your book.
Don't get me wrong, the Kobo Aura HD is a nice
ebook reader that offers a lot
of features and is a good buy for many people for several reasons, but I personally can't help but be disappointed with all
of the inconsistencies in
ebook formatting and what feels like a step down from earlier generations with the bulky design and slick plastic exterior.
