Utilising a range of source materials from found imagery,
film stills and the internet, the new works
featured in this exhibition raise narratives and juxtapositions regarding the history of the painted canvas and the
photographic medium as visual document.
It includes essays by the curator Jens Hoffmann, the scholar José Luis Barrios, and the
film critic Ernesto Diezmartínez Guzmán as well as information on all the participating artists and their works, extended notes on the classic
films selected by the artists, and a special insert
featuring a newly commissioned
photographic project by Fernando Ortega depicting abandoned or repurposed movie theaters in Mexico City.
This exhibition
features approximately five large - scale
photographic works and the London premier of his most recent
film Trick (2004).
