New works include vibrantly
colored paintings and the recently completed infinity room «All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins» (2016),
featuring dozens of Kusama's signature bright - yellow, dotted pumpkin sculptures.
His esteemed intellect not only undergirded his gorgeous, expressive
paintings — frequently
featuring bold black shapes against fields of
color — but also made Motherwell one of the leading writers, theorists, and advocates of the
New York School.
The veteran abstractionist's
newest paintings feature bold
color and equally bold brushwork whereby pigment is scraped, layered and smeared.
By contrast, the labels at the
New Museum accord with my experience by allowing whatever referential
features may be there to remain at the level of suggestion by focusing on form and process («Composed along a central axis, each work is charged with a magnetic asymmetry; delineations between
colors are blurred in the process of melting the powdered enamel pigment into glass») and by relying on Müller's biography (her work with a genderqueer collective) to prompt viewers to wonder what exactly gender might have to do with what we see in her
paintings — if anything at all.
In several
paintings women are
featured in elaborate tignons, an 18th century headdress imposed by law for women of
color in
New Orleans and a tradition that although imposed as a form of oppression became, through elaborate patterning and design, a symbol of power and beauty.
In 1964, the author of the term, critic Clement Greenberg used it in the title of the exhibition

«Elements of Peace» consists of 47 recent
paintings, works on paper, sculpture, mobiles and maquettes of large multi-dimensional constructions, and
features works that range from vivid explosions of
color by which the artist is recognized, to
newer subtle white meditative
paintings.
This is the Brooklyn - based
color painter's first solo exhibition with the gallery and it will
feature a suite of
new acrylic on canvas
paintings conceived around the
color gray.
PaceWildenstein is pleased to present Josef Albers / Donald Judd: Form and
Color, an exhibition
featuring 15 oil
paintings by Albers from 1947 to 1967 and 11 sculptures by Judd from 1977 to 1994, on view from January 26 through February 24, 2007 at 32 East 57th Street,
New York City.
Diverging from her food - centered
paintings, spotlighted in her previous solo exhibition at the gallery, All U Can Eat, her
new works
feature abstracted landscapes grounded in an engagement with early modernism and an exploration of
color relationships.
Finch's talk at the
New School will focus on the artist's various public and large - scale installations like A Certain Slant of Light (2014 - 15), a site - specific installation at the Morgan Library inspired by its collection of medieval Books of Hours; Trying to Remember the
Color of the Sky on That September Morning (2014), a commission for the National September 11 Memorialand Museum composed of 2,983 individual watercolors representing the artist's recollection of the sky on September 11, 2001;
Painting Air (2012), an installation of more than 100 panels of suspended glass inspired by the
colors of Claude Monet's garden at Giverny; and The River That Flows Both Ways (2009), a permanent installation on
New York's High Line
featuring an existing series of windows which Finch transformed with 700 individual panes of glass representing the water conditions on the Hudson River over 700 minutes in a single day.
The exhibition
features new works from the artist's Kite
paintings series, which combines aspects of Op Art and
Color Field Theory, intermingled with concepts from Rosalind Krauss» theory of Sculpture in the Expanded Field.
Known for his innovative blending of figuration and abstraction, deft use of
color, «hybrid juxtaposition of high and low,» and inspired interpretations of folkloric myths and Roman poetry, the survey
features six bodies of work including layered
paintings from the 1990s, Afromuse watercolor portraits, and
new works created since Ofili began living and working in Trinidad.
The works
featured in this exhibition each present creative and conceptual investigations of
color, form, and design so as to open
new perceptual relationships between drawing,
painting, sculpture, and photography and their social environments.
