The fairly liquid
poo of the breast -
fed newborn can be easily dealt with by holding your
baby over the sink and just rinsing it down the drain.
Among other things she advocates crying, a 3 hourly
feeding schedule if you BF or 4 hourly if you FF, overwrap
babies with excessive bedding (which is what The Analytical Armadillo has been questioning recently), has some very misinformed views and ideas which are all based on her observations and opinions, rather than any that can be substantiated by scientific evidence and had some weird notions that
babies can
poo and vomit on cue to manipulate their parents.
It asks questions about the
baby's pees and
poos, about any pain during a
feed, and whether the
baby spontaneously lets go of the breast.
The color of stools from formula -
fed babies may also appear more yellowish and smell more like older children's poop, while breastfed
babies usually excrete a finer consistency of darker shades with some green and brown that smells quite different from the normal
poo you're used to.
You won't always be able to get your toddler down for a nap at exactly 2 pm as sometimes you may be in the middle of
feeding your
baby or be dealing with a
poo explosion.
Newborn
babies who are breastfed may
poo at each
feed in the early weeks, then, after about six weeks, not have a
poo for several days.
When our second was born, the midwife showed us this catch and it was so cool because when the
baby would fall asleep nursing I would change his diaper to wake him up and then sit him on the potty and nearly every time he would pee and
poo and then be ready to finish his
feed.
Your
baby may cough and splutter with the force of your let down, vomit as soon as she is moved after
feeds, and have an uncomfortable tummy or explosive, frothy, greenish

baby poo our of dirty laundry), go food shopping, prepare some healthy meals, clean the loo and change the matrimonial bedding every 3 or 4 days (it's likely to be saturated in breastmilk from night
feeds or leaks).
Formula -
fed babies tend to have more formed, yellow or tan coloured
poos while breast -
fed babies often have creamier mustard - coloured
poos.
If your
baby is
feeding regularly throughout the day and night, they are
feeding for around 10 - 30 minutes from the breast and producing wet nappies and yellow
poo, then be reassured all is well.
There will also be a difference in
poo appearance and consistency dependent on how
baby is
fed.
A
baby should usually be seen within a few hours of becoming unwell (refusing to
feed, vomiting or having runny
poo).
