Early industry development is in many ways analogous to that of the organic poultry industry, in that conventional fingerlings or spat (mollusc
larvae) can be brought in to start the operation, maximum density may be
controlled and there is a five per cent allowance for conventional
feed to allow high nutrient foods (mainly fish oil) to be used.
