The Close the Gap Campaign has released its position paper on the
Federal Budget 2015 - 16, calling on Government to restore cuts of up to $ 534.4 million over five years from the rationalisation of Indigenous Affairs programs, grants and activities administered by the Prime Minister and Cabinet and
Health portfolios.
In its Indigenous
health report the Committee recommended that the
federal Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs be required to produce an annual report to Parliament on the progress of government actions across all
portfolios to improve indigenous
health and well - being.
Wyatt will need to work closely with the
federal Indigenous Affairs
portfolio to ensure funds and programs do address determinants of
health, including justice.
(There seems to be little point asking the
Federal Health Department for such a briefing, given the
portfolio's lack of leadership to date).
