juvenile justice diversion policies and
programs at tribal, state, and
federal levels, it is necessary to:
Federal funding for delinquency prevention and improvements in state and local
juvenile justice programs and practices; and
The Lowitja Institute welcomes the swift action by the
Federal Government in announcing a Royal Commission into Northern Territory
juvenile detention in response to the brutal treatment of children detained in the Northern Territory criminal
justice system, aired in the ABC Four Corners
program on Monday 25 July.
(B) consulting with other
Federal agencies with responsibility for administering or evaluating
programs that serve eligible families to coordinate and collaborate with respect to research related to such
programs and families, including the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the National Institutes of Health, the Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention of the Department of
Justice, and the Institute of Education Sciences of the Department of Education.
